Back in ancient times the Greeks and Romans would set aside a day to honor the goddess Cybele that they felt signified the fertile earth and gave birth to all the goddesses that would come later. Since those days the day itself has transformed into one where everyone is meant to celebrate their own moms. This special occasion is celebrated throughout many areas of the world and many people signify its occurrence by giving their mom Mothers Day flowers.

Many times these pedals are arranged in fabulous bouquets. There are certain elements of the bouquet that are meant to give a certain meaning to how one feels about their mom. Each particular stem signifies something different from the other different kinds of stems presented in a collage of colors.

Several thousands of years ago a certain specimen was discovered on the by Greece on the Island of Crete. The lily became a favorite of the people back then and remains a favorite of people everywhere today. This plant was once thought to be a gift from the goddess, Hera. Some thought that the plant grew from the spillage of milk of her bosom onto the earth. These people thought the Lily represented chastity and virtue.

Another plant from the Mediterranean region was the carnation. The Greeks fell in love with the pinkish color that this plant gave to its pedals. They named the carnation Dianthus Caryophyllus, which meant that they considered it a flower from the gods. Some also thought it was a gift that signified love. The carnation now comes in many different colors and each color carries its own meaning.

Orchids have captured the imagination of thousands of people worldwide with its wide array of colors and designs. Back in the days of ancient Greece the people looked upon the orchid as a sign of virility. Then as time moved on the Victorian people of historic England felt that this plant signified luxury. Today, many people look upon it with awe and wonderment as its beauty of over twenty five thousand varieties fills their eyes and hearts.

Every year in the many areas where spring time means a rebirth on the earth the tulip springs up in gardens everywhere. The tulip has since come to make people think of love as the smells and sights of spring fill the air and all seems new again. The warm feelings one can have towards another has been assigned to the tulip as a sign of affection.

Then there is the plant that most people associate with love that can be part of the bouquet. This can come in long stem, or short stem, and one can call the plant by any name, but for all the plant is still rose. Ancient Greeks felt that the rose was a lasting gift that Adonis left behind with the spillage of his blood to remind Aphrodite of how he felt about her. To many people this is a sign that there love will never die.

Children have given their moms Mothers Day flowers for many years now. They choose certain plants for their beauty in making up the bouquets. However, these plants have become favorites for many reasons that might not be readily apparent.
